I haven’t spent much time on the beach and I haven’t been to California since I was 10, but after this short visit, I think I’ll be back again soon. Next time someone asks me how to train for the Stikine, my answer might be, “Paddle into the break in the winter in San Francisco and get trashed. Repeatedly.” The surf is intimidating.
